US Open; Serena wins 19th time in a row against Sharapova

In the first round match for the US Open, this year held on Monday between Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova, it was Serena Williams who came on top winning with a flawless performance by 6-1 and 6-1.

This is the first match for the last year’s US Open finalist Serena for this tournament after her controversial result. She was able to continue her winning streak against Maria Sharapova which is previously 19 games.

As for when Serena was asked by media what would she have had felt if she was the one who failed to win against an opponent for the last 15 years, she said, “Gosh, I never thought about it like that.”

With this win, Serena now extends her career meetings with Sharapova by 20-2.

Serena said, “Every time I am up against her, I try to bring the best out of myself and tennis.” This time, the match only lasted for 59 minutes.

In other matches of the day, the winner of the 2016’s US Open, Angelique Kerber, who had a tough Grand Slam campaign this year, in her first-round match against Kristina Mladenovic was defeated by 7-5, 0-6 and 6-4.

As for the 2016’s S Open finalist, Karolina Pliskova and the winner of this year’s French Open Ashleigh Barty, they were both able to overcome their first-round opponents with much struggle to advance to the 2nd round.
