Yafai vs. Gonzalez Kal Yafai defeats Israel Gonzalez to retain WBA world title

Kal Yafai was able to retain his super flywi4ght world title after getting a decision win over his opponent Israel Gonzalez on Saturday night boxing fight in Monte Carlo.

Yafai; the WBA world champion who easily defeated David Carmona last time out was given a tough time by Mexican Gonzalez at the bout held at Casino de Monte Carlo. In the end, Yafai won by rallying in 117-11 and 116-112 twice in decision points.

Yafai started off patiently from opening round and sized up his opponent in watchful guard as he landed in a starlight jab. This was the fourth defense of his WBA title so he was careful and patient.

On the other hand, Gonzalez started off fast as he landed in a body blow in the opening round making it clear that this is going to be different from other defense fights for the champion.

Gonzales in the second round himself got hit by a body blow and once his guard down a series of hooks landed on to him.

Gonzalez made a promising start but Yafai was not bothered by this much as he pummeled his opponent with single shots and flushed a left hook on to his opponent’s head.

Gonzalez was making use of his speed to trade in some shots smartly but Brit maintained a tight guard against his opponent.

In the fifth round, Gonzalez had bad cut over his eye which referee called to be caused by clashing of heads. After some work in the corner, Gonzalez was back in the fight and both opponents went toe to toe again.

From this point on, Birmingham man raised the tempo of the fight as he raised his skillful bodywork in the sixth round. The seventh round saw him gaining the control in the seventh round completely as he landed an eye-catching left hand.

After such lively match, Gonzalez was starting to breathe heavily. Finally, the Birmingham man landed a jolting jab and after that, the Mexican only circled around for closely fought rounds.

In the Gonzalez was blasted with a left hand but he refused to go down and in the tenth and eleventh round, he fired back with his own combination that made the champion work for his title hard.

The challenger was in control for the last three minutes of the fight. Finally, the fight was over as it was taken over to the scorecards. Upon hearing the scores, Gonzalez was clearly enraged as he marched out of the ring in fury.
