Todd Reirden; Coach of the Washington Capitals said to media that, “Tom Wilson is planning to make appeal in front of league for his 20 games suspension.”
Hard hitting forward of the Capitals was suspended by league on Wednesday on count of an illegal hit on the head of Oskar Sundqvist of the Louis Blues during the final pre season game of Capitals.
Reirden told media on Thursday, “I had spoke to Tom last night and what I had understand from this is hta6t he planning to make appeal to the league”.
League’s Department of Player Safety also factored in Wilson’s full suspension history which is four in 105 games since the beginning of his career to the beginning of season 2017-2018 before they gave pout his punishment.
After the punishment had been made, Wilson now has 48 hours to make an appeal. The appeal which is to be handled by The NHL Players’ Association said that this matter is the one to be reviewed.
In case Wilson serves his full suspension time, he will be forfeiting about 1.3 million dollars in salary from team as well as not being eligible to play until November 21st.
The appeal for his suspension will be first reviewed by the NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman. In case Wilson disagrees with Bettman’s ruling he can turn towards a neutral arbitrator.
Bettman who usually stays true to original ruling still reviewed Raffi Torrres’ 25 games suspension back in 2012 for 25 games and lessened it to 21 games.
Wilson who was previously eligible to remain on ice for Capitals’ Stanley Cup banner raising cup has now to remain suspended until the appeal process completes. He has already missed his second game against the Capitals’ rival team Pittsburgh Penguins of Thursday night.
