Kyle Edmund was able to make it into the quarterfinals of the Shanghai Masters after getting a straight set to win against Nicholas Jarry on the hard courts.
Edmund; the British number 1 made it into the 14th on the world rankings after his splendid run at the semi-finals of the China Open last week. He once again gave an amazing performance in his match against the Chilean player with a win of 7-6 and 6-3.
Edmund had a tight first set but recovered from it early on during the second set, thus sealing his meet with the world no. 5 Alexander Zverev for the last eight of the event.
As for Zverev, he was too strong for his Australian opponent Alex De Minaur as he won the match by 6-1 and 6-4 in only an hour. With this win, he has been able to reach his sixth Master quarterfinals and his first in Shanghai.
Fourth seed Zverev was suffering from the cold but still managed to win the first set in half an hour and after striking a critical break serve sealed the game in the second set thus finalizing his fourth career meet with Kyle Edmund.
Zverev seems to be becoming the Masters specialist. Though he only has one Grand Slam quarterfinal to his name; but for his last 12 Masters events, he has reached the final of five out of which he secured three titles. One of them is his Madrid Open title from last year.
