Oleksandr Usyk’s promoter Eddie Hearn says that Usyk wants the heavyweight fight with Anthony Joshua in 2019.
The Ukrainian fighter has high ambitions of challenging the titles of the top division. However, in order to do so, he must first overcome the Tony Bellew match that is set to happen on Saturday at Manchester Arena. In this match, all of Usyk’s four cruiserweight titles are at stake.
Eddie Hearn; the boss of Matchroom Boxing has already secured the multi-fight deal with Usyk and he also admits that Joshua is the second opponent for Usyk next year. Joshua, the unified champion is due to make his first defense at Wembley Stadium on April 13th, 2019.
When media asked Hearne as to when will Usyk move up in the Heavyweights, he said, “After the Bellew fight. Basically, if Usyk wins this fight or losses this fight, he will go straight up into the heavyweight. Joshua is the one that they want.”
Joshua on this wish from Usyk said to media, “Usyk is really a great boxer. I hope that Bellew is working on his counter punches because that is going to be the way to defeat Usyk. Let him tippy tap and match his rhythm and then explode. We all know that Bellew can counter a punch and he also got his dirty left hook too. If he can land that, I think he can win”.
