Ryan Garcia made the first defense of his WBC welterweight title a short one, stopping Conor Benn in the second round at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Saturday.
Garcia dropped Benn with a right hand early in round two, and although Benn beat the count and got back to his feet, Garcia went straight back on the attack. Referee Thomas Taylor stepped in to wave off the fight moments later.
The win extends Garcia’s hold on the 147-pound title he won from Mario Barrios in February, and marks his third fight at the welterweight limit. For Benn, it’s a second defeat in his last four bouts and his first fight back at 147 pounds since April 2022, having fought his most recent bout at a 150-pound catchweight against Regis Prograis in April.
