Santos Escobar’s journey with WWE has officially ended. His contract expired today, October 6, 2025, bringing his six-year run with the company to a close.
Reports suggest that WWE offered him an improved deal in an effort to keep him, but Escobar chose not to re-sign. Unless a last-minute agreement happens, he is now free to appear, wrestle, or sign with any promotion.
Escobar’s final storyline in WWE focused on his Legado Del Fantasma faction. After blaming Rey Mysterio for his loss to Logan Paul at Crown Jewel 2023, he turned heel and distanced himself from the Latino World Order. He re-formed Legado alongside Angel Garza, Humberto Carrillo, and Elektra Lopez.
The feud eventually climaxed at WrestleMania XL, where Escobar teamed with Dominik Mysterio but lost to Rey Mysterio and Andrade, in a match that even featured appearances from NFL stars Lane Johnson and Jason Kelce.
Before his move to SmackDown in 2022, Escobar made a big impact in NXT. Debuting in 2020 under the mask as El Hijo del Fantasma, he captured the NXT Cruiserweight Championship and later revealed his identity, building the first version of Legado Del Fantasma.
His title reign lasted 321 days and helped solidify him as one of NXT’s top villains. After a memorable rivalry with Tony D’Angelo, he transitioned to the main roster.
Born Jorge Luis Alcantar Bolly, Escobar comes from a proud wrestling family as the son of the legendary El Fantasma. Starting his career in 2000, he became a standout performer in Mexico’s AAA, winning titles such as the AAA Latin American Championship.
He also gained international recognition in Lucha Underground as King Cuerno and worked in CMLL before signing with WWE in 2019.
With his WWE chapter now closed, Escobar enters free agency as one of the most experienced and respected luchadores available, leaving fans eager to see where his next move will take him.
