China Open; Angelique Kerber, Caroline Garcia and Naomi Osaka all progress

Angelique Kerber managed to come back into the form during her match against Carla Suarez Navarro in the second round of China Open. She defeated her opponent in the second set by 7-6 and 6-1.

Angelique Kerber; world no.3 and the player who defeated Serena Williams earlier this year in the Wimbledon final, said that, “the conditions of shadow on the court were not at all helpful for playing during my first set”.

On the other hand, defending Champion Caroline Garcia has managed to yet again win another tough match against her opponent, Polona Hercog by 7-6 and 6-3. She will now be progressing into third round ft he tournament.

Naomi Osaka; eight seed of the tournament celebrated her first qualifying into the WTA Finals that is going to be held next month. To qualify she defeated the US player Danielle Collins by 6-1 and 6-0.

Osaka, who was broken in her first game, made a comeback and won successive 12 games. Her next opponent is going to be the tenth seed Julia Goerges. After Osaka defeats her she will be in the quarterfinals.

Qiang Wang defeated the 12th seed Latvian opponent; Jelena Ostapenko who was suffering from left arm injury by 6-0 and 6-0.

Sloane Stephens qualified for the third round after defeating Saisai Zheng by 6-1 and 6-3.

Kristen Flipkens was defeated by Holland’s player Kiki Bertens by 6-1, 6-1. The star of the tournament Dominika Cibulkova eliminated her Australian opponent Daria Gavrilova by 6-3 and 6-3. Anett Kontaveit also progressed into the third round after winning against Laura Siegemund by 2-6, 6-3 and 6-2.
