China Open; Kyle Edmund progresses into the third round after defeating Matteo Berrettini

Kyle Edmund; British Number 1 progresses for the third round of China Open after a hard win against the Italian qualifier Matteo Berrettini.

23 years old Kyle Edmund defeated the world no. 58 by 7-5, 6-7 and 7-5 in their Beijing showdown. Kyle is now set to face another qualifier named Dusna Lajoivc who progressed after deafening the third seed, Grigor Dimitrov.

Edmund was also the part of the winning side of the European team for the Laver Cup earlier last month. At the moment Kyle is struggling to finish the season positively after struggling from his illness which was he bouts of Tonsillitis. Edmund started off well against Berrettini in the opening set but soon after broke for a short while before securing his first set win.

Edmund was able to again gain the breakpoint chance in the seconds set’s third and seventh game but the second set ultimately went to the tiebreak which was ultimately won by Berrettini.

The third set was also a fierce won but in the end, Edmund came out victorious with a vital break on 5-5. He secured his victory with a tie-breaking point.

World No. 16 is now up against Lajovic who qualified after defeating Dimitrov by 6-4, 2-6 and 6-4 which came as a shock in the men’s draw.

World No. 8, Dimitrov was playing his first tournament after US Open. He was hoping to win his first 2018 title but all his hops came crashing down when he made nine double faults in a rather disappointing performance.
