China Open; Kyle Edmund suffers defeat in semi finals

Kyle Edmund suffered defeat at the China Open’s semifinal match. This also denied him the chance to qualify for his first ATP title. Edmund suffered a defeat on Sunday b hands of Nikoloz Basilashvili by 6-7 and 4-6. Nikoloz is now set to face Juan Martin del Potro in the Chan Open final.

If Kyle Edmund had won this match he would have had only been one step away from winning his maiden Trophy.

In the first set, both opponents performed below par and wee hinged on a tie break which ultimately went to Nikoloz as he concluded it with an ace that flew apt Edmund. As for tie break, Britain’s no. 1 had a 4-1 lead.

Nikoloz the world no. 434 got hold of the game in the second set as he broke Edmund rather quickly and with a stylish winning hit claimed the third straight game.

This week, Georgian had already defeated op players like Jack Sock, Fernando Verdasco and Malek Jaziri. Nikoloz also won the Georgian Open this year and is ready to challenge for winning his second career trophy.

As for Del Potro, the top seed of the tournament got to benefit from Fognini’s sudden withdrawal from the tournament. Fognini withdrew before his semi final match due to his aggravated ankle injury.
