CONCACAF Gold Cup: Jamaica defeats Panama by 1-0 to move into the semis of the tournament

A penalty kick from Darren Mattocks during the 75th of the game helped Jamaica win over Panama by 1-0 and to advance into the semifinals of the CONCACAF Gold Cup.

Mattocks was called into the game after Michael Murillo, for handball was whistled in the box. Mattocks is the forward for the FC Cincinnati of the Major League Soccer and only entered in the game two minutes earlier.

 

As for their goalkeeper Andre Blake of the Philadelphia Union, he made two goal saves for his team and for the cheers of the audience. One of the goals save was during the 43rd minute on the shot from Abdiel Arroyo.

Panama’s goalkeeper Luis Meja also did not let his team down as he also made crucial save like that of Junior Flemmings shot during the 58th minute but came just a short of the opposing team’s goalkeeper.

Jamaica, who has previously reached the finals of the tournament back in 2017, will now advance to the semifinals where they will play against the US in a match held on Wednesday at Nashville, Tennessee. The US advanced to the semis after defeating Curacao by 1-0.

Jamaica has made it to the semifinals of the Gold Cup previously 3 times in a row.
