Danny Ings has joined Wycombe Wanderers. The former Liverpool, Southampton and England striker has signed for the League One club on a free transfer, on a deal running until the end of the 2026/27 season, and is available to make his debut against Reading at Adams Park at 3pm BST (10am ET) on Saturday, September 26.
Ings, 34, had been without a club since leaving Sheffield United when his contract expired at the end of last season. A proposed summer move to Leicester City fell through, and he has spent the past week training with Wycombe before the deal was completed.
Why Wycombe signed Danny Ings
Wycombe’s director of football strategy, Tom Stockwell, said the club was excited to add a player with Ings’ top-level experience, and stressed that the striker had been training with the squad since the previous Friday, so the club knows he is fit and ready to make an immediate impact.
The Chairboys need a lift. They are 14th in League One, are still looking for their first home win of the season and have been without a permanent manager since Michael Duff left on September 8, with Tom Hounsell in caretaker charge. Wycombe coach Sam Vokes is a former Burnley team-mate of Ings.
Danny Ings’ career in numbers
Wycombe are the eighth club of Ings’ 17-year professional career, after Bournemouth, Burnley, Liverpool, Southampton, Aston Villa, West Ham United and Sheffield United. He has scored 122 goals in 434 appearances.
His best spell came at Southampton, where he scored 22 Premier League goals in 2019-20 and finished joint-second in the Golden Boot race. He won three senior England caps and scored once, with an overhead kick in a 3-0 friendly win over Wales at Wembley in October 2020. He also lifted the Europa Conference League with West Ham in 2023.
