In recent news of the boxing world, Derek Chisora has named his longtime rival David Haye as his new manager.
Chisora was knocked out by aye in a 2012 grudge match which was fired up by their pre-fight press conference brawl. Haye who has now retired from the ring is now serving as the manager of his one time rival for negotiating his upcoming fight with Dillian Whyte on 22nd December.
Haye the owner of Hayemaker Boxing Stable confirmed Chisora as his new client said to media that, “this is a project which is a tough one. I have thought long and hard about it”.
He further stated, “I thought to myself, do I want this task? No disrespect to Derek, but Derek is not easy to work with”.
Chisora also explained his stance on approaching Haye, “we had lunch and we spoke. He did play hard to get. He said, let me think about it but I knew he was already hooked. Then he said, let do it. Every time I suffered defeat, I rebuilt myself. I saw how David did it for himself and I want to do this for myself too.”
Chisora said that a rematch with Whyte is now the main goal, “if he had knocked me out in the first fight I would not be having this rematch. Now it is about getting it right and there is nothing else to it. I only want a rematch and we are going to make it happen for fans.”
Haye relating this rematch said, “Dereck can shock the world again as he will be knocking on the door for the world title shot. I am certain that Dereck on that day can stop Whyte conclusively.”
