The French Open is near and the tournament has increased its prize money by more than 8% for this year.

The tournament will now be paying out a sum of 42.7 million Euros or 37.1 million pounds at this year’s 2nd big Grand Slam event. Last year the prize for French Open was about 39.2 million Euros.

As of now, US Open tends to be the tournament with the biggest prize money. The tournament paid 40.6 million Pounds n 2018 and as for the prize money of Australian Open, it was about 34 million Pounds last year and the same was the prize money for 2018’s Wimbledon.

The increase has been made after keeping in view the fact that in recent Slams too few players are able to make living out of the sport. The biggest percentage increase has been made in the qualifying as well as the early rounds of the tournament.

Players who fail in the qualifying rounds of the tournament will be given 7000 Euros which is nearly a 16% increase from the last year. As for the losers of the first round, they will be able to take with them 46000 Euros; a 15% increase since the last year’s tournament.

As for the Singles champion of the tournament, they will be taking home the sum of 2.3 million Euros; an increase from last year’s 2.2 million Euros.

On Thursday the Roland Garros’ new Simonne-Mathieu court was also inaugurated where the tournament will start. This is the first time that this court has been sued for beginning the event when it will start of May 20th.

After a few years of struggle, the French Tennis Federation has finally gotten permission from the government to expand their court into the neighboring botanical gardens. The new capacity of the court for spectators will now be 5000 and it will be entirely surrounded by the greenhouses.
