New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart could miss the remainder of the 2026 season after further testing on Tuesday showed the knee injury he suffered on Monday night is worse than the team first believed.
Dart was hurt on the Giants’ opening possession of their 28-6 loss to the Los Angeles Rams, taking a hit as he threw on third down and landing awkwardly on his left knee. He walked off the field under his own power and X-rays taken during the game were negative, with the initial assessment pointing to an MCL sprain.
That outlook changed after an MRI on Tuesday. Head coach John Harbaugh said the team had “learned a lot more” but stopped short of confirming specifics, adding that “evaluations are ongoing” and that the Giants “haven’t gotten any final decisions yet.” ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Dart could require season-ending surgery.
Jameis Winston replaced Dart in the first quarter on Monday and is in line to start in his absence. The veteran filled in for the Giants during the 2025 season, losing both of his starts in one-score games.
New York, who fell to 0-2 with the defeat in East Rutherford, host the Tennessee Titans at MetLife Stadium on Sunday, September 27, with kick-off scheduled for 1:00 p.m. ET.
