Two former winners of Dais Cup; Great Britain and Argentina have been both given the wild card for 2019’s revamped Davis Cup tournament. This means that they are not going to have to play in the qualifying round in February.
The decision was issued by the governing body that Britain who has won the title back in 2015 and now in Glasgow earlier this month is free from participating in the qualifying rounds.
Great Britain will be joining the 16 other world teams in the November of 2019 which will also include 2018’s semi finalist teams of Croatia, France, Spain and USA. The next year the tournament is going to take place in Lille or Madrid on November 18 to 24.
The line up will be set after the 12 teams are selected from their qualifying round matches in February of 2019.
Leon Smith; the Davis Cup Greta Britain team captain said to media, “Our Davis Cup record from the previous years is something that we are really proud of. In addition to this our top rankings amongst the five nations of this competition actually shows our commitment to the tournament. We are also looking forward to being the best of the best for next year as well, while creating memories and inspiring our fans as we aim for winning the competition”.
Scott Loyd; chairman of the Lawn Tennis Association said to media that, “We did not supported the vote in favor of the Davis Cup’s reform. However we always said whatever the result of the voting is we are going to stand by ITF. It is our job to get behind the completion and try our best to succeed”.
Under the traditional format of the Davis Cup, France is set to face against Croatia on November 23rd to 25th.
