Johanna Konta suffers defeat at the semi finals of Kremlin Cup at hands of Daria Kastakina

Johanna Konta suffers defeat by Darai Kastakina by 6-4 and 6-3 and with this, her run in the semi finals of Kremlin Cup comes to a halt.

British no. 1 was hoping to end her year 2018 career on a high with her first title of the year in the final year event of the Kremlin Cup in Moscow.

However, unfortunately for Johanna, her opponent the sixth seed player Daria Kastakina proved to be too strong for her as she gained a straight set victory.

In the second service game, Johanna began t break down and Kastakina started to gain control of the match.

During the next game, Konta tried to hold with three break points but was ultimately pinned down by a deuce. Kastakina won the game eventually with a double fault.

World No. 14 Kastakina eventually stole the opening set.

Both opponents exchanged breaks in the second set’s opening but soon Kastakina was able to do a decisive break in the fourth game and won the set with nine successive points with a lead score of 1-4.

Kastakina, the home favorite was able to win the match in about 1 hour and 31 minutes. She has set her match for the Kremlin Cup’s final with the world no. 101 Ons Jabeur. Ons Jabeur secured her spot in the final after defeating Anastasija Seveastova in three sets.
