Liverpool owners face dilemma – stick or twist with Slot?

As the reigning Premier League champions struggle through a worrying dip in form and frustration among supporters continues to grow, serious questions are being raised about the future of head coach Arne Slot.

Amid this uncertainty, one name has begun to dominate conversations among supporters—Xabi Alonso. The former Liverpool midfielder is widely admired by fans due to his successful playing career at the club and his achievements as a manager. Murphy believes that if Liverpool are considering a managerial change, they must ensure that a suitable replacement is readily available. Interestingly, Murphy also proposed an even more ambitious alternative—Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique. With Enrique potentially leading PSG to another Champions League triumph, his pedigree and experience at the highest level make him an attractive candidate. However, securing his services would likely be far more challenging.

Murphy expressed sympathy for Slot, acknowledging that the manager has faced several significant challenges this season. Following the title-winning campaign, Liverpool underwent major changes during the summer transfer window, with a substantial overhaul of the squad. Replacing key players such as Trent Alexander-Arnold and Luis Diaz proved to be a difficult task, and the new signings have struggled to adapt to the pressure of playing for a club of Liverpool’s stature.

On the other hand, making a managerial change carries its own risks, particularly if the chosen replacement fails to deliver immediate success.

Murphy warned that repeating the approach taken with Rodgers in 2015 could prove costly. Backing Slot without clear signs of improvement may leave Liverpool falling behind their rivals, especially in a highly competitive league where other clubs continue to strengthen.

Ultimately, the decision facing FSG is a complex one, with no guaranteed outcome. However, the growing unrest among supporters and the team’s declining performances suggest that a change may be unavoidable.
