Madrid Open; Osaka wins the first round while Muguruza ousted in the 1st

The start of the Madrid Open was on a positive note for Naomi Oskar who won her opening round match. As for Carolina Wozniacki, she had to withdraw herself from the tournament following an injury whereas Garbine Muguruza suffered a straight sets defeat at the hands of Petra Martic on Sunday.

The world rank no. 1 Naomi Osaka, the winner of the US and Australian Open, won her match against the 2016 finalist of the event Dominika Cibulkova by 6-2 and 7-6.

Osaka said, “For me, I am just very happy to have made it through the match. For me, I feel very nervous during the first round match. For me to play against a player like Cibulkova and on top of that on a clay court was tough for me.”

Next, Osaka will be facing Sara Sorribes for the second round match who managed to defeat her fellow countrywoman the wild card player Lara Arruabarrena.

As for the first round match between Caroline Wozniacki and Alizé Cornet, Wonziak0aicki was forced to retire from the match following a lower back injury during the first set which she was losing by 3-0.

As for the two-time grand slam champion Muguruza, she was ousted by Martic by 7-5 and 7-6. For Martic, this was a great match following her last week’s first career title win in Istanbul.

Up next, Martic will be playing against the 4th seeded player Angelique Kerber.

As for the 3rd seeded Simona Halep, she defeated her Russian opponent Margarita Gasparyan by 6-0 and 6-4.

in other matches of the day, 5th seed player Karolina Pliskova defeated her 18 years old opponent from Ukraine Dayana Yastremska by 5-7, 7-6, and 6-3.

As for the Men’s Singles matches, Rafael Nadal will be playing against Felix Auger-Aliassime.

Felix Auger-Aliassime set a match with Nadal after defeating Denis Shapovalov, who was the last year’s semifinalist by 6-2 and 7-6.
