Patrick Mahomes made his return from a torn ACL count, throwing for 184 yards and two touchdowns and adding a 15-yard rushing score as the Kansas City Chiefs routed the Denver Broncos 31-10 in their season opener.
Running back Kenneth Walker III stole the show on his Chiefs debut, rushing for 173 yards including a 60-yard touchdown run as Kansas City scored in every quarter.
Denver’s offense struggled for most of the night, managing just a touchdown pass to Evan Engram and a field goal from quarterback Bo Nix, who finished with 131 passing yards, a touchdown and an interception. Denver had been considered among the preseason Super Bowl contenders, and the lopsided result prompted a blunt assessment from inside the Broncos camp, with the effort described as “pretty pitiful.”
