Miami Open; Novak Djokovic cites off-court distractions for defeat against Roberto Bautista Agut

Novak Djokovic cited the off-court distraction to be detrimental after he lost his fourth-round match against Roberto Agut Bautista at Miami Open. This was the second early exit of Djokovic on the hard American courts.

Earlier in the Indian Wells, the world no. 1 lost his game against Philipp Kohlschreiber for their 3rd round match.  Novak Djokovic lost this match against the world rank 25 by 1-6, 7-5 and 6-3.

With this loss, Serbian has now failed to make it into the quarter finals of the Master 1000 tournaments since 2017. With this, he admits that he needs to rethink about his schedule.

Djokovic said, “I have too many things off-court and I guess all of that affected my performance on the court.”

Back in January, Djokovic won his 7th Australian Open title which was his third consecutive Grand Slam victory. However, since then he has only won three matches.

In other matches of the day, the 19 years old Canadian teenager Denis Shapovalov managed to win his thrilling match against Stefanos Tsitsipas by 4-6, 6-3 and 7-6.  The match was a close won but Denis ultimately managed to claim his second victory over a Top 10 player in his career.

As for his next match, Shapovalov will now face Frances Tiafoe for the quarterfinals match. Tiafoe defeated his 18th seed opponent David Goffin by 6-4 and 6-4.

Kevin Anderson, the 2 times Grand Slam champion has also managed to get into the last 8 of the tournament by defeating Australian player Jordan Thompson by 7-5 and 7-5.

His next match will be with the winner of Roger Federer VS Daniil Medvedev match.

In the women’s draw, Petra Kvitova missed her chance of being the world no. 1 after she was defeated by 7-6, 3-6 and 6-2 at hands of Ashleigh Barty.
