Opening-night shoes of LeBron James at Lakers debut are inspired by 2003 Nike ad

LeBron James has now officially become a Lakers player. James made his debut for the Lakers on Thursday night while wearing the Burgundy and Golden sneakers in a match against Portland Blazers. Hover people are puzzled by it because the footwear he is wearing is similar to the colorway of his former team, Cleveland Cavaliers.

However his choice for footwear was for not his former team but instead a nod to the 2003 Nike ad. In that ad, LeBron James was featured sitting on a Burgundy and olden Throne with lions around him.

The designer of LeBron 16; Jason Petrie said to media that, “The luxurious burgundy tones, the gold detailing, his original (LJ23) logo and the animal fur — a combination of the lions and the animal pelt he had draped over the throne — are all there (on the shoes) as nods to that poster”.

He further stated that, “we have been working on this design for now two years in advance. We were not aware where he was going to go in free agency market. We planned the colors so he could wear them on any given time and could get away with it.
