Red Bull confirmed on Tuesday, September 22, that Isack Hadjar will return to the cockpit alongside Max Verstappen at this week’s Azerbaijan Grand Prix, having recovered from the wrist injury he sustained in training over the summer.
The 21-year-old Frenchman missed three rounds through the injury — the Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort, the Italian Grand Prix at Monza and the Spanish round at the new Madring circuit. Liam Lawson was promoted from Racing Bulls to deputise across those three weekends and now returns to the junior team, while Yuki Tsunoda goes back to reserve duties.
“Oracle Red Bull Racing is delighted to welcome Isack back this weekend,” the team said in its announcement. “Having made a successful recovery from his wrist injury, Isack will return to action at the Baku City Circuit on Thursday.” The statement also thanked Lawson “for his professionalism, dedication and hard work over the past three races.”
The Baku weekend runs a day earlier than usual to avoid a clash with Azerbaijan’s Remembrance Day on Sunday, September 27. First and second practice take place on Thursday, September 24 at 9.30am and 1pm UK time, third practice and qualifying follow on Friday, September 25 at 9.30am and 1pm, and the race starts at 12pm UK time on Saturday, September 26 — 3pm local time in Baku.
