The fight for the title of WBA Super Middleweight Champion is going to be fought between Saul Canelo Alvarez and Rocky Fielding on December 15th at the Madison Square Garden in New York.
Canelo; the Mexican fighter is regarded as one of the most fierce fighters on the planet who recently emerged victorious yet again in his rematch against Gennady Golovkin.
Eddie Hearn, the match room promoter told in a press conference in Chicago that the Canelo’s promoter Eric Gomez of the ‘Golden Boy Promotions’ directly approached him for arranging this fight.
He told media that, “it is something that I never thought I would say. Rocky Fielding is going to defend his WBA title against Alvarez at the Madison Square Garden. This is going to be one hell of a trip in a lifetime. I got a text from Eric Gomez and thought that this would be interesting. He asked me as to What Rocky Fielding is up to and I told him that he is looking or a defense and he says, Does he wants to fight against Canelo? I nearly dropped the phone and while laughing said, we are looking at our options”.
He further said that, “Next thing I spoke to Rocky as you have to get the best deal for your fighter. However, this is an opportunity of a lifetime like Cinderella story. You cannot simply make this up. This is going to be a fight that will change his life forever. He is going to go in the fight as an underdog. We all know that Canelo is coming up from 150 to 160 pounds while Rocky is going to be 180 pounds in the ring”.
Canelo’s career stat is 53 matches and only one loss at hands of Floyd Mayweather back in 2013. Rocky is going to be joining the long line of British opponents like Liam Smith, Amir Khan, Ryan Rhodes and Mathew Hatton who have all been beaten.
Rocky, on the other hand, has 28 career fights with only one loss. He has also boxed more on the domestic level before he won his first world title against Tyron Zeuge back in July.
