Sociedad loses to Villarreal in Spain at Spanish League by 2-1

The 5-game winning streak of Sociedad comes to an end in the Spanish League as Villarreal wins on Sunday. With this loss of the Spanish League game, the hopes for Sociedad to make it to the Champions League come to an end.

While the Real Sociedad had the lead of the game by halftime, they had already conceded 2 goals for Villarreal in a match of Spanish League which was the first since the winter break. This was also their first home loss of a Spanish league game since October of 2019.

Sociedad is at the 5th place with each of them having 31 points and they are both behind the 3rd placed Atlético Madrid and the 4th placed Sevilla in the Spanish League. They are the last teams who held the spot for the qualification of the upcoming Champions League.

As for Real Madrid and Barcelona, they are holding the top spot of the Spanish league with their 40 points each while the 2nd spot of the Spanish League is being held by Catalan Club with a difference of the goal.

Imanol Alguacil, the coach for Sociedad sad, “We did a lot of good things today but we had to pay the price for not capitalizing on the option of having scoring chances.

The only game that Real Sociedad has lost in their last 7 games of Spanish league was against Real Madrid back in November.

Alguacil said, “We need to make some adjustments to avoid losing like this but still, we are on the right track.”

The lead was taken by Sociedad after their striker William Jose scored the only goal of the team during the 22nd minute but then hosts made a rally to score a goal in the 58th minute on a penalty kick from Manu Trigueros and then in the 72nd minute by Santi Cazorla.
