Vic Hadfield’s honored by New York Rangers as they retire his number 11 jersey

Vic Hadfield has joined his former GAG Line teammates as his jersey of number 11 was retired by the Rangers.

On Sunday night ceremony before the Rangers vs. Winnipeg game, the team hung his jersey number 11 in a banner on the rafter at the Madison Square Garden.

In his past 13 seasons playing for the New York Rangers, Vic Hadfield played in a total of 841 games for the team and scored 262 goals along with 310 assists. He was traded off to Pittsburg in May of 1974 and later finished his career with the Penguins back in 1976. On his time with Rangers, he was applying as the left wing on the line with Jean Ratelle and Rod Gilbert. They were dubbed as GAG Line meaning “goal a game”.

Teammates who also served as the Ranger’s captain from 1971 to 1974 received a standing ovation from the crowd at Sunday night when he was announced and walked out on the ice on a red carpet.

He again received a standing ovation from crowd when he was called by Gilbert to come on to the podium.

Harden in his emotional address to the crowd said, “I can’t explain the happiness that I feel as I receive this great honor and tribute from you guys tonight. This is an amazing and surprising honor for a player to receive”.

He is the 10th player from rangers to have his number retired and his is the No. 11. This number was previously retired for another Rangers player Mark Messier and is the only number to retire twice by the team.
