Billy Joe Saunders relinquished his WBO Middleweight title

After Billy Joe Saunders relinquished his WBO Middleweight title, Demetrius Andrade is now set to face off against Walter Kautondokwa.

The reign of British middleweight champion came finally to an end after he failed to get the license of boxing from the Massachusetts State Athletic Commission. Him, not being able to get the license is what caused the cancellation of his title defense fight against his American opponent Andrade.

WBO President; Francisco Paco Valcarcel also confirmed the news to media, “BJ Saunders has decided to let go of his WBO Middleweight title voluntarily. He has also apologized publically for the violation of the Massachusetts Athletic Commission’s anti-doping rules”.

He further announced the news of Andrade’s upcoming fight, “after this fight being canceled, Demetrius Andrade is now going to fight against Walter Kautondokwa in a fight scheduled on October 20th. The fight will be fought or the vacant World Crown”.

Eddie Hearn; the promoter of Demetrius Andrade was already certain that Saunders will lose his title after the results of adverse analytical findings came up in his voluntary drug test.

Hearn on this whole situation said to media, “I really like Saunders. This was a fight that was for our new platform in America and it had been a really good fight. Many people were expecting this fight. However, unfortunately, Saunders and Andrade both signed up for VADA drug testing and Saunders failed the test”.

He further said, “it does not matter now, no matter how much you sugar coat with words like, ‘he would have not failed the drug test with UKAD’. He has failed the test with VADA and the commission had to make an act.”

Saunders promoter; Frank Warren also talked to media and said, “because of the mental burden by this whole case and out of the respect for WBO, Billy Joe Saunders with a heavy heart relinquish from his world title”.
