Serena Williams and Rodger Federer are set to face off each other in the upcoming Hopman Cup. The pair’s presence in the cup has been confirmed as they will both represent America and Switzerland respectively.
Serena Williams who has not played in a single match after losing the US Open final against Naomi Osaka is going to pair up with French player Frances Tiafoe for the mixed team event. Roger Federer will be playing alongside Belinda Benic.
From Great Britain’s side, Cameron Norrie and Katie Boulter are going to pair up in their search for a victory in the Exhibition event. The event is going to be held in Perth from December 29th to January 5th.
Williams who is going to play her fifth exhibition event said to media that, “I always enjoy playing in front of a crowd in Western Australia, Perth. The Australian fans are always so warm and supportive. Hopman Cup always had been my great start of the season, especially before the stat of the Australian Open.”
She further said to media that, “while I have not played with Frances in mixed doubles before but I have still watched him play this year from afar. He is someone with a very bright future ahead and I am looking forward to playing with him. It is going to be a lot of fun”.
Williams is going to be playing back in Australia since her eight Australian Open Singles while being eight weeks pregnant with her child Olympia. However, she missed this year’s Australia Open event due to the birth of her first child and the event starting early this year.
