The co-main event of Saturday’s Premier Boxing Champions card in San Diego has been called off after interim WBC middleweight champion Jesus Ramos Jr. was pulled from his scheduled bout with Meiirim Nursultanov at Friday’s weigh-in. PBC confirmed the fight “has been scratched at the weigh-in and will be rescheduled for a later date.”
Ramos fell ill on Thursday evening and was taken to a hospital in the San Diego area for treatment before being released on Friday morning, according to reports from Sports Illustrated and Fightnews. The promotion intends to keep the Ramos-Nursultanov match-up intact and stage it on a new date.
The rest of the card at Pechanga Arena goes ahead as planned on Saturday, September 19, with the main card starting at 8pm ET / 5pm PT on DAZN. Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz defends his interim WBC super lightweight title against Puerto Rico’s Nestor Bravo over 12 rounds in the main event.
With the Ramos fight removed, undefeated super middleweight Daniel “Iceman” Blancas against once-beaten Mexican Sergio Jimenez moves up to a 10-round co-feature. The card also includes Marco Verde against Guillermo Hernandez over eight rounds at middleweight, and Eumir Marcial (7-0, 4 KOs) against Omar Ulises Huerta (15-1-1, 13 KOs) at middleweight.
No replacement bout has been added to fill the vacant slot, and no new date for Ramos v Nursultanov has yet been announced.
