The rest of Week 1’s Sunday slate delivered plenty of scoring and a few surprises to go with the Bills’ win over the Texans and the Jaguars’ rout of the Browns covered separately.
The Chicago Bears put up 59 points in a 59-37 shootout win over the Carolina Panthers, with the two teams combining for 96 points. In Minnesota, the Vikings scored 29 unanswered points to beat the Green Bay Packers 39-22 after backup quarterback Carson Wentz came in for an injured Kyler Murray and steadied the offense.
Detroit needed overtime to see off New Orleans, winning 31-30 in a back-and-forth thriller against the Saints. Baltimore cruised past Indianapolis 41-23, while Cincinnati edged Tampa Bay 33-27 in a high-scoring AFC-NFC clash.
Elsewhere, the Eagles opened their Super Bowl defense with a 24-22 win over Washington, the Jets beat the Titans 23-10, the Raiders beat the Dolphins 27-13, the Cardinals upset the Chargers 26-14, and the Giants beat the Cowboys 28-20. Pittsburgh got past Atlanta 20-13 to round out a full and eventful opening Sunday.
