The New Orleans Pelicans and forward Saddiq Bey have agreed to a three-year, $55.5 million contract extension, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported on Thursday, September 17. The deal is fully guaranteed, includes a trade kicker and ties the 27-year-old to New Orleans through the 2029-30 season. The agreement was also confirmed by The Athletic and listed on NBA.com.
Bey is entering the final year of his current contract, which pays him roughly $6.56 million for 2026-27, with the new terms taking effect from the 2027-28 season. Under the trade kicker, Bey would be entitled to a bonus of up to 15 percent of his remaining salary if the Pelicans were to trade him.
The extension rewards a bounce-back season for the former Villanova forward, who missed the entire 2024-25 campaign recovering from a torn ACL in his left knee. In 2025-26 he appeared in 72 games, starting 64, and averaged a career-best 17.7 points along with 5.6 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 0.9 steals in 31.2 minutes per game, shooting 45.1 percent from the field and 36.7 percent from three. Only Zion Williamson and Trey Murphy III scored more for New Orleans.
Bey was selected 19th overall by the Detroit Pistons in the 2020 draft and made the All-Rookie First Team before being traded to the Atlanta Hawks in February 2023. He later joined the Washington Wizards and was dealt to the Pelicans last year. The 2026-27 NBA regular season begins on October 20, 2026.
