Caroline Wozniacki has revealed some shocking news about her medical condition. She says that she has been suffering from rheumatoid arthritis for the past few months since she was diagnosed with the ailment before the US Open.
Former world no. 1, Wozniacki won the French Open in January this year to claim her first Grand Slam title. She said that she was shocked by this disease but has continued to play well through her illness.
Her 2018’s season came to an end on Thursday after she was defeated by Elina Pliskova in the WTA Finals in Singapore.
She said to media, “I am very proud of myself as to how I have been so positive through all this period. I did not talk about this for the whole year because I did not want to give any of my opponents an edge to me by thinking that I am not feeling well.”
Wozniacki now in h off season period is going to obviously tend to the management of her illness. She also admitted that it has been really hard some days to even get out of the bed.
“Some days you wake up and you feel like you can’t get out of the bed. You just have to know that this is how it is now. But other days, you live and you are fine. You don’t even feel like you have it”.
Wozniacki also revealed that she was feeling unwell initially after Wimbledon. In Rodgers Cup, she could not even lift her arms and had to deal with the condition on daily basis.
She said, “Medication has really improved so that’s amazing. You now have to think about diet, sleep and everything else. You know that this is a lifetime thing now”.
