The Detroit Pistons announced on Tuesday, 22 September that they have signed forward Ausar Thompson to a contract extension. The deal, agreed earlier in the week, is a five-year rookie-scale extension worth $155 million, fully guaranteed and with no option years.
Thompson, 23, was one of the league’s most disruptive defenders in 2025-26. He was named to the All-Defensive first team and finished third in Defensive Player of the Year voting as Detroit went 60-22.
Across 73 regular-season games he averaged 9.9 points, 5.7 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 0.9 blocks, and led the NBA outright with 2.0 steals per game.
The extension also completes an unusual family milestone. Ausar’s twin brother Amen agreed a five-year, $208 million rookie-scale extension with the Houston Rockets earlier this month, making the pair the first brothers in NBA history to each sign contracts worth at least $100 million.
