Japan Open; Kei Nishikori chances to win his third title came crashing down

On the Sunday night of Japan Open’s final match held at Tokyo, he Russian qualifier Daniil Medvedev came out victorious after defeating the home favorite Kei Nishikori by 6-2 and 6-4.  The match lasted for over one hour.

Medvedev who came out of the blocks fast to face Nishikori who himself was aiming for his third title of this event. Nishikori could not find himself to cope with the fast and big-hitting Russian who ended his serve for the second time.

After the initial game, it was only a depressing story of unwanted mistakes from world no. 12; Nishikori. He made 11 unforced errors in his first set that ultimately allowed Medvedev to secure the first set by 6-2 in only under 25 minutes.

Nishikori tried to make a comeback by correcting his error in the second set but ultimately failed to have any impact on Medvedev’s splendid game serves. Nishikori only managed to gain one point on Medvedev’s serve in the entire second set.

Medvedev stalled Nishikori and then secured his victory over the tired Nishikori with a final shot. This concluded the third ATP title of the season and a win for Medvedev.

Nishikori; since his last victory has now last eight ATP finals. His last victory was back in February 2016 at the Memphis Open.
