JJ Spaun won the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth on Sunday, September 20, closing with a five-under 67 to finish on 17 under par, two shots clear of a four-way tie for second between Manuel Elvira, Rory McIlroy, Aaron Rai and Adam Scott. The American, who was left out of the United States Presidents Cup team, birdied four of his last five holes to post 271 and said he had played the week “with a huge chip on my shoulder.”
Elvira, the Spaniard who shared the 54-hole lead, eagled the par-five 17th to tie Spaun and needed only a birdie on the last to win. Instead he found a fairway bunker with his lay-up, sent his bunker shot well past the green, chipped into another bunker and walked off with a double-bogey seven that confirmed Spaun as champion of the DP World Tour’s flagship event.
McIlroy shot a final-round 68 with birdies on 12, 14 and 17 to share second on 15 under. “I wish I had some of those putts back,” he said, adding that he was “encouraged with where my game is at.” Ryan Fox, Matt Fitzpatrick, Joost Luiten and Filippo Celli tied for sixth on 14 under. Spaun collected $1.53 million from the $9 million purse.
On the PGA Tour, Jacob Bridgeman came from five shots back to win the inaugural Biltmore Championship Asheville at The Cliffs at Walnut Cove, North Carolina, with a bogey-free, career-best 10-under 61 in the final round. Rounds of 66-67-64-61 left the former Clemson All-American on 26-under 258, two clear of Ben James, who also shot 61 on Sunday.
It is Bridgeman’s second PGA Tour win of 2026 after the Genesis Invitational and was worth $900,000. Overnight leader Neal Shipley, the rookie chasing a first Tour title, finished tied third on 22 under alongside Ricky Castillo, with J.T. Poston and Jackson Koivun tied fifth on 21 under.
