Former England fast bowler Tom Curran has been rewarded for an impressive Big Bash League campaign after earning a place in the tournament’s official Team of the Season, following a standout run with Melbourne Stars.

Curran, now 30, played a vital role for the Stars throughout the competition, combining wicket-taking consistency with useful contributions down the order. Across the season, he claimed 17 wickets at an excellent average of 17.50, underlining his impact with the ball in pressure situations. In addition to his bowling success, Curran added valuable lower-order runs, scoring 60 from five innings to further enhance his all-round credentials.

Melbourne Stars finished fourth in the group stage before their campaign came to an end with a knockout defeat against Hobart Hurricanes. Despite that exit, the Stars were one of the most heavily represented teams in the Team of the Tournament, with five of their players selected.

Among those was wicketkeeper-batter Sam Harper, who was named Player of the Tournament after a season of consistent and influential performances. Harper’s contributions behind the stumps and at the top of the order proved crucial for the Stars, earning him widespread recognition.

Pakistan fast bowler Haris Rauf was another Stars player included after finishing as the competition’s leading wicket-taker. Rauf topped the standings with 20 wickets, regularly producing express pace and hostile spells that unsettled opposition batters throughout the tournament.

Stars captain Marcus Stoinis was also selected, marking a record-equaling fifth appearance in the BBL Team of the Tournament. His leadership, power-hitting and reliability with the bat once again stood out, reaffirming his status as one of the league’s most influential players over multiple seasons.

Veteran Australian opener David Warner earned selection despite his team, Sydney Thunder, finishing bottom of the table. Warner’s inclusion was justified by his exceptional individual output, as he finished as the tournament’s leading run-scorer with 433 runs. His form at the top of the order was a rare bright spot in an otherwise difficult campaign for the Thunder.

New Zealand international Finn Allen was one of the overseas players to make the squad after a blistering season with Perth Scorchers. Allen smashed a tournament-record 37 sixes, showcasing his explosive batting style and ability to dominate bowling attacks. His performances earned him a debut selection in the Team of the Tournament.

Allen was one of five players named in the squad for the first time, highlighting the emergence of new talent alongside established stars. Brisbane Heat batter Matthew Renshaw, Sydney Sixers all-rounder Jack Edwards, Adelaide Strikers bowler Liam Scott and Allen all received first-time recognition.

Despite finishing third in the group stage, Hobart Hurricanes did not have a single player selected, while seventh-placed Melbourne Renegades were also unrepresented. Players from six of the eight teams featured in the final squad, which was chosen collectively by the eight BBL head coaches.

The selection reflects a balance of consistency, match-winning performances and standout individual achievements across the season. It also underlines the Stars’ strong campaign, with Curran’s inclusion serving as a reminder of his value as a high-quality overseas professional in franchise cricket.

For Curran, the selection caps off a successful return to form and reinforces his reputation as a dependable all-rounder capable of making an impact in elite T20 leagues around the world.
