Sami Zayn retained the Undisputed WWE Championship against Kevin Owens in the main event of Friday’s SmackDown in Corpus Christi, Texas, on September 18, after CM Punk struck Owens with the title belt. Zayn followed up with a Helluva Kick for the pinfall, before Punk levelled both men with a GTS as the show went off the air.
Two Money in the Bank qualifying matches were also decided. Trick Williams won a triple threat against Randy Orton and Rey Fenix, pinning Fenix with the Trick Shot after a kick to Orton, to join Bron Breakker and Je’Von Evans in the men’s ladder match.
In the women’s qualifier, Jacy Jayne pinned Alexa Bliss after a knee strike on Jade Cargill to take the third spot in the women’s ladder match alongside Sol Ruca and Lola Vice. Three places remain open in each match.
Elsewhere, Bakusai (Shinsuke Nakamura and Kyoki) beat WWE Tag Team Champions The MFTs by disqualification after Haku struck Nakamura with his cane, with the champions laying out both challengers after the bell.
Money in the Bank takes place on Saturday, October 10 at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans, with Roman Reigns defending the World Heavyweight Championship against LA Knight also confirmed for the card.
